Beyonce Laishram is the first transgender doctor from northeast region, who has been a warrior all her life. A perfect example for the transgender community Laishram is a ray of hope especially for the marginalised Nupi Maanbi community.
Beyonce Laishram got her MBBS degree from the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and currently works in a private hospital in Imphal. Laishram has currently turned into a corona warrior as she treats COVID-19 patients in a private hospital in Imphal, Manipur.
“I look like a woman now, so no one realises I am a trans-person until they hear my voice. Some people are startled, but that’s it. I have been working here since November 2019 here. There was no discrimination or hate directed towards me here. All my colleagues treated me as a friend,” says Beyonce, who identifies as a post-operative transwoman after undergoing sex reassignment surgery in Puducherry. Moving ahead she is also helping disadvantaged Nupi Maanbi community get access to healthcare.
Addressing the media she said, “The Nupi Mannbis of Manipur helped me a lot. I am preparing for my post-graduation in cosmetic surgery. I want to help the Nupi Mannbis back”.
Transgender doctor like Beyonce Laishram is a perfect example of hard work and perfection and is an inspiration for many.
